COVID-19 active cases in Lambton climb to 100

October 4, 2021

For the first time since mid-February, the number of people with COVID-19 in Lambton County climbed to triple digits.

Saturday, Lambton Public Health reported there were 100 people ill with the virus. Monday, eight people had recovered and seven new cases had been reported, putting the number of active cases at 99 people.

That’s the highest number of people ill since mid-February, around the same time the province put greater restrictions on Lambton because of the climbing rates of the virus. At that time, county had one of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases in the province with a rate of 60 people with COVID for every 100,000 people.

Today, Lambton Public Health says the county has a case rate of 61.8 per 100,000 people. Other statisticians place that rate as high as 73 cases per 100,000 people.

Ontario’s rate is 25.5 per 100,000 people.

Lambton also has the third lowest vaccination rate in the province at 77.2 per cent. In Ontario, 81.3 per cent of the people in the province are vaccinated.
