A Sarnia man has been sentenced to one year probation after punching a Sarnia police officer in the head, threatening to kill him.
Kevin Racette pled guilty to the assault Feb. 23 in Sarnia court.
On Jan. 22, 2019, police were called to home because there was a lot of yelling going on inside. When they arrived the house was dark and quiet. Police knocked on the door but it took Racette some time to answer. When he did, he told them he was alone with his grandfather.
Racette tried to close the door, but the officer put his foot inside saying he had to make sure everything was okay inside the house.
Racette’s common law partner, Emily Watson, became involved pushing the officer and telling him to get out. She spit on the officer’s boots and slapped him across the face.
As police tried to arrest her, Racette punched the officer yelling “I am going to (expletive) kill that cop.”
Both were arrested and Racette admitted to the assault Feb. 23. Defence Lawyer Autumn Johnson says Racette’s memory of the event is “foggy.”
She added he does struggle with drug addiction and has plans to go to a treatment facility in Ottawa.
Racette spent 60 days in custody, so he was sentenced to time served and placed on probation for one year.
