Childs Dawn-Euphemia’s Senior of the Year

June 9, 2022

Heather Childs thought she was going to Dawn-Euphemia council give an update of her latest volunteer project, the Barn Quilt trail.

But, as she was stunned to find out, it was just a ruse to get her to the meeting to honour her as Dawn-Euphemia’s Senior of the Year.

Childs was nominated by her daughter, Robin, who wrote; “throughout her entire life, my mother has been a consistent volunteer in her community.”

While her kids were in school, Childs volunteered for fund raisers and as a chaperon for school trips. Robin added she “created a Kids Club that met once a week in the library where we learned songs and listened to stories.” Childs also started up a Kids Club at her church, Zion Free Methodist in Beaver Meadow.

Childs was also a volunteer with the Dawn Historical Society and, for over a decade

Right now, Childs volunteers with the Into the Dawn Barn Quilt Trail volunteers. They created over 50 barn quilts which are now hanging around the municipality.

Childs down played her role in the project saying she likes the hands on work – tape off and paint it green – that’s what I can do,” she said at the end of her presentation to council.
