Capes, Camlachie’s Pickard win SWOSSA cross country

Chase Capes continues his undefeated season with an individual cross-country championship at the SWOSSA event in Windsor on Thursday. Capes finished the 6K race in 19:49.6. St. Patrick’s teammate Ryan Ladoucueur also qualified with a fourth place finish in the same event. Both now qualify for the provincial championship in Brampton on Nov. 1.

Meantime, Camlachie’s Keala Pickard won the junior girls’ crown with a victory of just under 10 seconds in a time of 19:21.9. Ava White of the Irish also qualified for the provincial championship with a fifth place finish in the same event.

Tayvin Young of Northern, Colten Peters of North Lambton and Liam Reynolds of the Vikings all advanced in the junior boys’ race with second, fourth and fifth place finishes.

Lily Bressette of Northern and Avery Norland of St. Patrick’s advance in the senior girls’ division with a third and fifth place division respectively. Jocelyn Field of North Lambton qualified in the novice girls’ race.

Individually, the top five advance to OFSAA while the top two teams also advance.

St. Patrick’s and Northern move in the senior boys’ team category while the Vikings advance in both the senior girls and junior boys team categories.

In addition to Capes and Ladouceur, the Irish senior boys’ team qualifier are Evan Iacobelli, Daniel Diaz Quinones, Eli Lukenda, Brady Colameco, Sawyer Wong and Ryan Debreauil.

The Northern team includes Alexander Fortney, Kyle Guthrie, Dawson Moses, Prestyn Murphy, Owen Devlin, Liam Burns, Nic Ficht, Liam Best, Vaughan Machlin, Brody Hyde, Rohit Subramanian, Liam Byatt, Yeong Cho, Kasra Houshmandi, Adrian Fernandez Mediero and Jai Starrett.

The Northern junior boys’ qualifying team included Young, Reynolds, Eli Odolphy, Levi Tolton, Carson Smith and Alexander Bennett.

And, the Viking senior girls’ squad to qualify consists of Bressette, Olivia Somers, Harper Sieders, Abilene Clark, Addison Guilbeault, Astrid McCormick, Sadie Bergan, Madalena Sousa Teixeria, Melissa Gandy, Adelaide Weening, Anna Eagleson, Emily Coyle, Areya Young and Sope Laniya.
