Lancers open provincial hockey tourney with upset victory

LCCVI has provided the first upset for the OFSAA boys’ A/AA hockey tournament.

The 13th-ranked Lancers scored twice in the first period and added another in the third to knock off second-seeded Sudbury-St. Charles, 3-0 Tuesday morning. Two of the LCCVI goals were on the power play.

Jace Hall and Roen Douglas scored in the opening frame for LCCVI and Ryan Minten added an insurance marker in the third at the game in the Whitby area.

Sean Shanahan turned aside 25 shots for the shutout.

The Lancers’ next game is against St Thomas-St. Joseph at 2 this afternoon
