The LCCVI Lancers provided the first upset of the OFSAA boys’ A/AA hockey tournament.

The 13-ranked Petrolia school knocked off St. Charles College in the opener Tuesday.

The Sudbury school was rated second going into the 16-team affair.

St. Joseph added a goal each in both the second and third periods for solidify the victory.  Donovan Appleford, a member of the Lambton Jr. Sting U18 team had a goal and an assist for the St. Thomas school.  Callum Besley, a former Lambton Jr. Sting goaltender, picked up the win between the pipes.  Blake Verberne took the loss.

LCCVI will close out pool play with a game against Orillia’s Patrick Fogarty Secondary School Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The sudden death playoffs begin Wednesday afternoon.
