Walpole Island man faces drug trafficking charges

A 58 year-old Walpole Island man is facing seven charges additional charges after being arrested on outstanding warrants.

March 5, around 11:15 am, Lambton OPP with the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad and the Walpole Island olice served a warrant on Blackbird Line. They arrested a man for outstanding warrants.

The officers then searched a home and seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and firearms. Police say the value of the items seized is around $31,800.

The Walpole Island man is facing gun related charges and four drug charges – three for trafficking fentanyl, meth and cocaine and one for possession of an opioid.

He’s being held in custody and returns to court March 13.

Meantime, the Special Investigations Unit continues to probe another incident in the community the same day. Lambton OPP went to the island to help with a weapons investigation. Residents in the area were told to stay indoors for a time.

The SIU says in the area of Pumphouse Road and Shawnee Road, there was an interaction between police and occupants of a vehicle, which included the discharge of firearms by officers. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. Later, two people were arrested.

No one was struck as a result of the firearm discharge, and no one suffered any serious injuries.

Six people have been assigned to investigate the police action.

Sidewalk projects around First Ave this summer

Aamjiwnaang evacuates parts of community as INEOS decommissioning increases benzene levels
