One treated for smoke inhalation after Courtright fire

April 12, 2025

St. Clair fighters were able to limit a lot of the damage to a Courtright landmark.

Fire officials where called to the Riverview Grill, housed in a century building on the St. Clair Parkway, around midnight Friday.

Firefighters arrived on scene and started fire suppression and rescue operations, extinguishing the fire. Officials say the fire was knocked down initially by a fire suppression system in the kitchen.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

Residents in the building were able to get out safely and it appears the damage has been contained to the restaurant.

St. Clair Fire reminds restaurant owners that a fire suppression system is important in the kitchen to discharge a wet chemical over the appliance fire. It covers the flame and starves it of oxygen.

The Ontario Fire Code requires to have a system to be inspected three times a year.
