Canada Border Services has arrested a Brampton man after finding about $23.3 million of cocaine in a transport.
Officials say on June 12, a transport truck from the US was coming over the Bluewater Bridge and was referred to secondary inspection.
In the trailer, border services officers with their detector dog found 161 bricks of what they suspect is cocaine in six boxes. The drugs weighed 187 kilograms and officials say is estimated to be worth $23.3 million on the street.
Karamveer Singh, 27, of Brampton was arrested by border services and handed over to the RCMP. He’s been charged with importing cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The RCMP is still investigating.
“This is the fourth time a significant amount of cocaine coming from the United States was seized at the Blue Water Bridge this year, demonstrating the excellent work being done by our border services officers and their effectiveness in safeguarding our borders,” said An Nguyen, director, St. Clair District Operations, Canada Border Services Agency in a news release.
Officials say so far this year 978 kilograms of cocaine has been seized at southern Ontario points of entry.
