Volunteers are fanning out across Lambton today for the annual Day of Caring.
It’s a time to help the community and raise money for the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton. It’s hoping to raise $1.5 million this year for community organizations.
About 120 volunteers from 15 companies are working at 20 different sites, including homes and community organizations, weeding gardens, painting walls, building storage spaces and leveling patio stones.
“Day of Caring is one of our favourite days of the year,” said Bodkin. “Volunteers not only roll up their sleeves and get super energized, but they also get to see first-hand how donated
dollars are used to assist those in need in our community,” says United Way Executive Director Pamela Bodkin.
Bodkin says there are fewer volunteers this year, but many more people volunteer other days of the year. “Having flexibility in the timing of these volunteer days gives more people the opportunity to get involved. Shutdowns have always played a part in the number of volunteers we get for the annual event,” Bodkin added.
