Drumhead service in Brigden opens Legion Week

The Brigden branch of the Royal Canadian Legion hosted a Drumhead Ceremony for Zone A-4 at the Brigden cenotaph on Sunday, Sept. 21. for the beginning of Legion Week in Ontario.
A drumhead service is a tradition, which began in the 1700s when the regimental padre would conduct services in the field for soldiers.
Drums were piled and draped with regimental or national flags to create an improvised alter. The Royal Canadian Legion continues this tradition to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Sunday, the drums from the Forest Legion Pipe Band were stacked to create the makeshift alter in front of the Brigden cenotaph as Les Jones of the Sarnia Legion placed the flags.
The ceremony even included a fly by.
