Zelenchuk wins SWOSSAA, heading to provincial tennis championship

Yarko Zelenchuk hopes to reclaim OFSSA tennis gold in the spring.

The LCCVI student won the SWOSSAA title in Chatham Wednesday to gain a berth into the Ontario championship tournament in June.

Zelenchuk beat Shikai Jin 8-0 to take gold.

This will be Zelenchuk’s third OFSSA tennis tournament. In 2023, he won gold. In 2024, he made it to the quarter finals before bowing out.

And LCCVI Lancers Mackenna Wheeler and Matthew Stek placed third at the SWOSSAA mixed doubles event.

Highway 402 closed at Watford after accident

Highway 402 eastbound is closed at Nauvoo Road after two tractor trailers collided. A streamer across Lake Huron is dumping the traditional snow belt area with about a foot of snow on the ground around Highway 402 and Arkona Road.
