Two Ontario men face charges after alleged immigration fraud at Lambton College

Team USA blanked Team Canada 3-0 in the final of the International Para Cup tournament in Czechia Sunday. Forest’s Tyler McGregor won the scoring title in the tourney with seven goals and 11 points in five games. McGregor and Team Canada now prepare for the Para Cup in BC next month where they will face off against the US, China and Czechia. Team USA and Team Canada will be favoured to battle for gold next year at the Paralympics in Italy as they did both in 2018 and 2022.

Eamon Edgar has his first goal in the Ontario Hockey League. The second round pick by the Barrie Colts, with strong family ties to Petrolia, snapped a shot from just outside the blue paint midway through the second period of the Colts’ game in Sudbury on Friday night. He subsequently added a goal and an assist against Kitchener Saturday. Edgar, who does not turn 16 until next week, has two goals and two assists in 12 games.

Freshman second row player Mackenzie Duncan has been honoured with a women’s rugby all-star selection by the OUA. Duncan and her Western Mustangs teammates went 4-3 overall this season bowing to Brock in the provincial quarterfinals earlier this month. Duncan, from Courtright, is a graduate of LCCVI in Petrolia.

Noah Myers will continue his pro baseball development playing winter ball in Puerto Rico. The six-week season begins late next week. Myers, a product of the Wyoming minor baseball season, hit .238 with an OPS of .739 in 111 games with Tampa Bay’s high A and double A farm teams in Bowling Green and Montgomery, Alabama this past season. He had 13 doubles and eight home runs while driving in 47 runs. He was also successful in stealing 36 bases out of 37 attempts. Originally drafted by the Blue Jays, Myers had his contract purchased by Tampa Bay in late 2023.

Wyoming’s Abby Phelan is among four athletes and a coach from the Sarnia Bluewater Wrestling Club that have been named to Team Ontario for development camps overseas next month. Phelan and teammate Taylor Chad will be heading for Oslo, Norway for a camp that runs from Nov. 19-26. The Ontario team will compete against squads from the USA, Japan and several European countries, according to SBWC head coach John Burke. Grffin Wittliff and Mathys Carrier Moureault are going to the men’s camp in Germany along with SBWC coach Laughlin MacDonald.

Michael White is the under-23 Open 75-kilo Golden Glove champion for 2025. The Wyoming fighter beat a Brampton fighter in the semi-finals at the recent event in Windsor and then defeated Bluewater Boxing Club teammate Elijah Collier for the top prize.
White now advances to the nationals in Calgary next March. He’ll be the defending champion after winning his weight class in Sarnia last year.
