Alan Letang’s tenure as head coach of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting has come to an end after he was fired in the midst of a three-game eastern Ontario road trip.
The decision was made after losses in Peterborough and Ottawa. Sarnia then lost in Kingston Sunday.
After being hired in the summer of 2021, the one time Sting player amassed a record of 121-136-35 in four-plus seasons at the helm of the OHL club.
Under his guidance, the overall winning percentage of .474 for the Sting dipped to .407 since reaching the Western Conference against the London Knights in 2023 and was .400 through 20 games this season.
Sting GM Dylan Seca said Letang’s impact on the franchise has been meaningful and appreciated, but added a new voice is needed to guide the team through the rest of this season and beyond.
The team has missed the playoffs the past two seasons and is currently in ninth place in the Western Conference
“Alan is a good person and a strong coach who represented our organization with class every day. This was not an easy decision, but we feel it is the right one for our group at this time,” said Seca.
Sarnia continues its five-game road swing this weekend taking on the league-leading Bulldogs in Brantford on Friday and the Otters in Erie Saturday.
