St. Clair Township has given Skyline Developments the green light to try to win a contract for a battery electricity storage system project.
The company will ask the Independent Electricity Supply Operator for a contract to run an 18-megawatt project on Polymer Drive near Corunna. Its original plans called for between 120 and 200 megawatts of storage there, but company officials decided to start with a smaller project. It still hopes to develop an 180-megawatt project in the area in the future.
Council had voiced concerns about the noise the project might create for neighbouring subdivisions. Skyline reviewed the matter and had another firm check its work. They found there should be no issues.
Council’s letter of support gives Skyline the opportunity to bid for an energy contract, but there is no guarantee of obtaining one in 2026.
