Van Gorp fifth in Knight scoring, Sting win three

December 17, 2025

Barry Wright/The Independent

Evan Van Gorp is now fifth in London Knights scoring this season after recording three points in three games last weekend.

The Watford native and Lambton Jr. Sting grad had a goal and an assist in a one-goal loss in Niagara Dec. 11 before registering two helpers in a 5-3 win against Saginaw the next day. Van Gorp and his team were shutout 2-0 by Brantford Sunday.

It was the first time London has been held off the scoreboard in a regular season game since late in the 2022-23 campaign.

Van Gorp is averaging nearly a point per game over the past month with five goals and 11 points in 12 games since mid-November.

The Knights are in Owen Sound Dec. 17 and will entertain the Oshawa Generals on Friday and the Barrie Colts Sunday.

The Knights open the second half of the season in Sarnia on Dec. 28 before hosing the Sting for a late afternoon New Year’s Eve game in London on Dec. 31.

Meantime, it would seem Alessandro Di Iorio is prophetic. When the sophomore was name captain of the Sting last week, he urged his team to go out and win three games on the weekend. And that’s exactly what happened.

The Sting completed the weekend sweep with a 6-4 win over the Guelph Storm in a spirited affair home ice affair on Sunday afternoon.

The win comes on the heels of a 3-2 win in Flint and a shootout win over Guelph in Sarnia Saturday.

The Sting is at home Dec. 17 playing Kitchener. Sarnia heads into the holidays with road games at Erie and Niagara this Friday and Saturday.
