Barry Wright/The Independent

Playoff positioning is up for grabs in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Yeck Division as five teams are within three points of each other in the standings heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Thamesford leads the division with 52 points, one more than Petrolia, Exeter and Mt. Brydges and just three points ahead of fifth-place North Middlesex.

The Flyers hit a speed bump last week losing three games including a 3-2 loss in overtime to the Bulldogs in Mt. Brydges Friday.

Isaac Truman opened the scoring for Petrolia in the first period and Parker Davidson increased the lead to two goals with a second period tally.

The home team tied the game with two goals in four minutes late in the second frame. After a scoreless third period, Mt. Brydges captured the second point in the standings at 6:10 of the extra period.

Theron Morningstar made 51 saves in the Petrolia crease as the Bulldogs outshot the Flyers, 54-51.

Ryan Nichols scored twice and added an assist for the Flyers in a 6-5 home ice loss to Exeter last Thursday while Nichols and Andrew Jaques each tallied twice last Tuesday in a 10-7 loss to the Sailors in Port Stanley.

The Flyers host division-leading Thamesford at Greenwood on Thursday at 7:30 before closing out the regular season with road games in Port Stanley and Exeter on Saturday and Sunday night.

Among other games to close out the 2025 26 regular season, Aylmer is at Exeter and Thamesford entertains Port Stanley on Friday and North Middlesex takes on the Bulldogs in Mt. Brydges Saturday.

The two final games will be Lucan at Exeter and North Middlesex entertaining Port Stanley, both on Monday.
