Petrolia runner wins gold; now heads to university nationals

Charlie Shaw and his University  of Guelph Gryphons men’s track and field squad won the team championship at the OUA Track and Field Championship in Toronto.

Shaw also qualified for the national championship next month in Winnipeg with his third-place finish in the men’s 1000 metre race at the provincial event Feb 20.

He was sixth in the 1500 metre race.

Fellow LCCVI grad Megan Jaques of Brock University also competed and had two top-15 finishes.  She was 12th in the shot put and 14th in the hammer throw.

Two other area athletes, both from Sarnia, qualified for nationals.  Alex Harris of Guelph was fourth in the women’s triple jump and was part of the Gryphons’’ women’s championship team and Ryan Davies of McMaster was fifth in the men’s 3000 metre run. Harris is a graduate of St. Patrick’s. Davies is a Northern alum.
