The LCCVI Girls Hockey team is on the way to the provincial championship in Coburg.

The team beat the L’Essor Eagles 2-0 to win the AA SWOSSAA Championship title Tuesday afternoon at the Greenwood Recreation Centre in Petrolia.

Ella McCallum had both goals for the Lancers, one in the second off the stick of Meagan Munro and Olivia Minten and the other in the third with assists from Mya Thorne and Munro.

Ainsley Bennett recorded the shutout for LCCVI.

Coach Scott Watson called the win “amazing.

“All year, this is what the girls have said is their goal – to get to SWOSSA and then to with this game,” he said as the team celebrated around him.

“Getting to OFSSA last year, they’re really excited and enjoyed it but this year, they just had that extra drive and edge. Even in September, the girls were saying…they wanted to get to OFSSA.

Long-time Girls’ Hockey Coach Sara Krawetz is proud of the team.

“I thought they moved the puck well and they played well as a team and they stayed positive despite not putting the puck in the net after the first period and a little bit.”

LCCVI has competed in the LK final every year since 2016. They’ve advanced to SWOSSAA eight years in a row and to the provincial championships four times in the last decade.

Last year the Lancers didn’t advance past the round robin at OFSAA but the team made the quarterfinals in 2024.

The 2026 OFSAA Girls A/AA Hockey Championship will be in Cobourg starting March 24.
