Work on the new floor of the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood arena should begin April 10.
That after Brooke-Alvinston council approved a $ $1,703,531.50 contract to Bronnenco Construction out of London in a closed door meeting March 30.
Brooke-Alvinston has been planning the replacement of the arena floor for over a year with the bill expected to come in around $1.9 million.
The provincial government has provided a $1 million grant for the work and the municipality is in the middle of a community fundraising campaign for the rest of the cash.
So far, almost $160,000 has been raised in a couple of months.
It’s not clear how long the construction will take, however the municipality is making plans to move some of its Canada Day celebrations – specifically the floor hockey tournament – outside this year.
Town staff is hopeful the Alvinston’s Optimist upgrade of the tennis court will be complete so the floor hockey tournament can be held there.
Janet Denkers, administrator of Brooke-Alvinston, says the contractor can start April 11.
