Petrolia will be a lot greener, thanks to three projects which have received funding from the town and Waste Management on Earth Day.
Petrolia Discovery, Kiddies Corner Co-op and Queen Elizabeth II School were all recipients of the Green Leader grants April 22. The Green Leader program supports organizations and initiatives that preserve and/or enhance natural resources and/or help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Petrolia Discovery Foundation will receive $1,000 to plant 20 Red Cedars that will act as both a windbreak and a wildlife habitat. The Discovery will also plant six Sugar Maple trees and six Serviceberry trees.
Queen Elizabeth II School will use $3,500 to re-foresting the Junior Area in the school yard for shade and outdoor learning.
And Kiddies Korner Co-op will receive $5,500 for planter boxes, trees and shrubs in their backyard area.
