Sports Briefs: Beaudoin has three tries as Lancers’ Girls’ rugby beat CKSS

LCCVI is now 2-1 in high school girls’ rugby after beating the CKSS Golden Hawks, 37-nil.
Mya Beaudoin led the winners with three tries.
Emily White, Noelle Edgar, Miley Anderson and Kennedie Urquhart also crossed the goal line for the Lancers. Urquhart also added a convert.
LCCVI ends the regular season against the St. Patrick’s Irish on May 20 in Petrolia. The postseason begins the following week.

Plympton-Wyoming’s Pat Verbeek is one of two local people left in the chase for Lord Stanley’s cup this season.
Anaheim, where Verbeek is general manager, is down three games to two against the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference semi-finals heading into action this week.
The other is former Sting fan favourite and head coach Trevor Letowski who is an assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens who are currently playing Buffalo.
Ex-Sting players Travis Konecny and Porter Martone of the Philadelphia Flyers were eliminated by Carolina May 9.

Former Petrolia Jet Nicholas Bet worked his first ever OHL championship contest as a referee last Sunday in Barrie.
The Sarnia native was named to the league’s officiating crew before the best-of-seven final between the Kitchener Rangers and Barrie Colts.
Bet, 42, played three seasons with the Jets between 2001-04. He turned to officiating after his retirement from playing hockey in 2011.

Pitcher Bo Buckley has joined the Chatham Barnstormers of the Canadian Baseball League. The Wyoming product has most recently played in the league with the London Majors. He was 8-4 in 54 appearances in NCAA D-1 baseball and summer league collegiate action from 2022-24.

LCCVI grads Trevor Syer and Zach Wilson and the Kanakakee Cavaliers have advanced to the National Junior College regional baseball quarter-finals.
They’ll take on Rock Valley College May 14 in Madison, Wisconsin. The Cavs advanced by winning three of four games at a qualifying tournament last weekend.
Syer and Wilson, both pitchers, have combined for 13 appearances for the Chicago-area school this season.

Weather permitting, the Western Counties senior baseball league will try again to raise the curtain on a new season this week. The scheduled opener between the Port Lambton Pirate juniors and Wyoming Cowboys last weekend in Port Lambton was rained out.
This week, the Corunna Giants are set to play the Port Lambton Juniors May 13 at Eric Mackenzie Community Park in Courtright at 7 pm., Petrolia is home to the Pirates on Saturday at Morrison Field at 1 p.m. and the Wyoming Juniors entertain Corunna on Sunday afternoon at Canton Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.

Noah Myers is in the Florida Complex League on a rehab assignment.
The Montgomery Biscuits sent the Wyoming product there after coming off a stint on the injured list. The Biscuits are the Double-A affiliate for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Meantime, another Wyoming product, Core Jackson has been placed on the injured list by the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades.
The team did not disclose the nature of his injury.
Jackson is hitting .248 with two home runs, 11 RBI and 11 steals in 109 at-bats for the Yankee affiliate this season.
