Plympton-Wyoming wants to shape economic growth

Plympton-Wyoming is looking for residents ideas to drive the development of the community.
The town received a Rural Economic Development grant in the spring and hired Town Hall Consulting to put together an economic development plan.
Adam Sobanski, CAO of the town, says the consultants have already met with senior managers and council members talking about their idea to drive economic growth. It has also met with officials from the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce, Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, Community Futures and Tourism Sarnia Lambton to hear their ideas.
July 13, the town held an open house to hear residents views. Ten people attended.
Sobanski says people can still give input in a survey, found on the municipality’s website. He says it “asks the community to prioritize where they see are the best bang for buck in regards to the town investing in economic development.”
One of the areas of focus, at least in the eyes of council and staff, will be Camlachie, says Sobanski.
“We acknowledge that we’ve grown immensely residentially in that area, but there’s been no commercial development to service those new property owners in the area,” he tells The Independent. “We’re hoping that the strategy will give council some tools that they can help attract investment.”
The consulting team is also looking at ways to address the lack of industrial land, and ways to encourage the agriculture and tourist industry.
The survey will be online until the end of July.
