Newcomer McDonald helps Flyers blank Irish in season opener

Goaltender Eric McDonald made an immediate impact with the Petrolia Flyers earning a 36-shot shutout in a 2-0 win over the Irish in Lucan in the league opener for both teams last Saturday night.
Although there was some discussion online about the validity of the shot totals, officially the Irish outshot Petrolia, 36-34.
A couple of veteran defencemen handled the scoring for the Flyers.
Logan Crummy’s goal at 12:22 of the first period stood up until Rhett Joy’s empty net marker iced the game in the final
minute of regulation time.
Petrolia continues its season with a game against the Hawks in Exeter on Friday night at 8 p.m. and then takes on the defending divisional champion Bulldogs at Mt. Brydges on Saturday at 7:30.
The Flyers’ home opener is against the Hawks on Thursday, September 24 at the Greenwood Recreation Centre. Puck drop is 7:30.
The Bulldogs’ roster includes veteran rearguard Will Hull of Oil Springs while Lambton Jr. Sting goaltending grad Callum Besley is on the Exeter roster.
