Alessandro Di Iorio and off-season acquisition Parker Holmes are back from NHL camps and will be in the lineup when the Sarnia Sting take on the Peterborough Petes tonight (Thursday) at 7:05 p.m.

Sarnia continues their road trip against the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday night and play the 67’s in Ottawa on Sunday afternoon.

The Sting are coming off a win in their season opener.

They scored a trio of power play tallies in a span of less than four minutes late in the second period and early in the third to defeat the Greyhounds, 4-3 in Sault Ste. Marie last Saturday night.

Trailing 3-1 late in the middle frame, Cole Emerton scored in the final minute of the period to cut the Sting deficit to 3-2 after 40 minutes. He also had two assists. Jack Van Volsen tied the contest in the first minute of the third and then recorded the decisive goal at 3:10.

Rookie Sarnia goaltender Ivan Tkach-Tkachenko shut the door the rest of the way with nine saves in the final period including exceptional saves on Colin Fitzgerald and Travis Hayes in the final three minutes.

Simon Katolicky, fresh from his time at the Calgary Flames camp, also scored for the Sting. Logan Hawery had two assists.

Sarnia was three-for-eight with the man advantage.

Meantime, Sarnia’s leadership group was named on Monday. Alessandro Di Iorio will remain the captain while Van Volsen, Emerton, Holmes and Cam Aucoin were chosen alternate captains.

Sarnia also acquired local product Brody Najim on Monday from Saginaw for a conditional late round draft choice in 2030.
