Sarnia Sting prepare for home opener after snapping long losing streak in Ottawa

October 1, 2026

To say what happened in Ottawa was a rarity would be a massive understatement.

The Sting’s 10-3 win Sunday in the capital was its first in Ottawa in nearly two decades. Sarnia’s last victory against
the 67’s on the road was Nov. 2007. The vast majority of the current Sting roster wasn’t born when Matt Martin and Steven Stamkos combined to give the Sting a 3-1 victory.

Captain Alessandro Di Iorio led the Sting with a career-high four points on two goals and two assists. The Columbus
prospect now has six points in three games since returning from the Blue Jackets training camp last week. He was a finalist for this week’s OHL Player of the Week.

Jack Van Volsen also scored twice for the Sting, as did Tyler Challenger.

Cameron Aucoin and Brenner Lammens each had a goal and assist with the others going to Simon Katolicky and Adrian Sgro with his first career goal in the OHL.

Lambton Jr. Sting grad Dracen Campbell registered four assists and was a plus four on the afternoon. He was originally credited with his first OHL tally but the third period goal was later credited to Challenger instead.

Parker Holmes had two assists.

Ivan Tkach-Tkachenko stopped 24 of 27 shots in the Sarnia crease as the Sting outshot the 67’s 39-27.

The win allowed Sarnia to capture two of three contests in its swing through eastern Ontario.

Friday in Kingston, Easton Walos, Holmes, Lammens and Aucoin all had a goal and an assist and Wyatt Herres scored
his first league tally in a 5-3 win over the Frontenacs.

Kale Osipenko made 26 saves in his season debut.

Walos scored twice with singles going to Challenger and Lammens in a 7-4 loss to the Petes in Peterborough last Thursday.

Sarnia, 3-1 on the season, is now preparing for its home opener on Friday against the Soo Greyhounds. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.

The Sting finish their busy weekend with a trip to GTA. They take on the Barrie Colts on Saturday night and face off against the Oshawa Generals on Sunday evening.
