Sting goaltender Ivan Tkach-Tkachenko turned aside 35 shots, including 18 in the second period, to backstop Sarnia to a 3-0 win over the Generals in Oshawa Sunday evening.

His second period performance included back-to-back point blank saves on first overall pick Kane Cloutier that were flagged as the league’s Save of the Night.

Easton Walos broke a scoreless tie early in the second period and then doubled Sarnia’s lead early in the third.

Matthew Manza iced the contest with an empty net tally in the final minute of regulation time.

Tkach-Tkachenko, Walos and Tyler Hinde of the Generals were the three stars. Hinde’s mother is from Petrolia.

Saturday, the Sting were on the other side of the goaltending equation as Colts goaltender Matvei Nikonovich made 53 saves to lead Barrie to a 5-3 win.

Brenner Lammens, Jack Van Volsen and Myles Dunn, with his first career OHL goal, scored for Sarnia.

Eamon Edgar, whose father is from Petrolia, had a goal and an assist for the Colts.

The Soo Greyhounds beat the Sting, 4-3 in overtime to spoil Sarnia’s home opener last Friday.

Jordan Charron’s seeing-eye shot trickled home for the game-winner a fraction of a second after the second of two penalties against the Sting had expired.

Lammens, Chase Gaughan and Alessandro Di Iorio scored for Sarnia.

Sarnia’s next game is a return contest against the Generals on Friday night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena before traveling across the border for a game with the Firebirds in Flint on Saturday.
