402 Eastbound closed: traffic on Petrolia Line stopped
March 12, 2014
Area roads are a mess
Traffic on Petrolia Line between the town limits and Maundaumin Road has stalled after several cars ran into drifts approaching a meter high on the westbound lane. Callers to The Independent say several cars are stopped on the road, although a snow plough has been through on the east side. It’s not clear if anyone is injured.
Highway 402 is a mess. Lambton OPP, who had been slowing traffic on the highway to try to avoid accidents, are now on the 402 near Airport Road investigating a multi-vehicle accident.
One OPP officer working on the accident in the eastbound lane was struck while he was out of his cruiser. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A driver of a car which was stuck in the middle of the multi-car accident had to be freed by Sarnia firefighters. Lambton EMS took him to hospital.
The eastbound 402 remains closed right now.
And there are reports of accidents on the St. Clair Parkway at the Suncor curve, Churchill Road and on London Road.
Police are advising drivers to stay off the road has the high winds whip up the freshly fallen snow reducing visibility to near zero at times.
