Petrolia Line reopens; OPP still search for lone-gunman in bank robbery

July 23, 2014

Petrolia Line reopened this evening after an armed robbery at the CIBC bank.

Lambton OPP say a man walked into the branch carrying what appeared to be a handgun around 2:30pm and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured.

But people’s nerves were on edge as police, some dressed in tactical greens – all with weapons drawn – searched with a Canine unit for the suspect.

For a time, the doors at the Oil Heritage District Community Centre were manned by staff to ensure no one came into or out of the building without their knowledge as the tactical unit searched around the building.

By 4:30 pm, police gave up their land search and finished collecting evidence. Officers canvassed the downtown, peering into garbage cans in and in alley’s looking for clues. They also asked downtown business owners for any surveillance video.

Police are looking for a man in his 30’s who is about 6 feet tall. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing sunglasses, gloves, a grey hoodie with a logo on the front, and a white shirt.
