Only the hardiest remain at Rainbow Park say Sarnia officials
Time for some star gazing
August 15, 2014
If you’ve ever wanted an up close look at the moon and the stars, Saturday may be your night.
The Petrolia Optimists are sponsoring Stargazing at the Discovery. Starting at 7:30 there will be a family friendly movie and following that the Royal Astronomical Society will be present with telescopes for stargazing.
Optimist spokesman Ted Gravelle says on a clear night, the telescopes can capture far more than the eye can see.
“It’s amazing,” he says. “A couple of years ago we had a clear night and some of the stars I saw – I didn’t realize they looked like that.
“One year it was cloudy most of the night and we only saw the moon – but you saw all the craters of the moon and that was amazing.”
Gravelle says the forecast calls for clear skies so it should be a good night Saturday for star gazing.
