Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a COLD WEATHER ALERT for Lambton County based on the latest forecast from Environment Canada predicting extreme cold temperatures beginning overnight.

The alert is expected to remain in effect until Friday, February 1, 2019. The Medical Officer of Health will not issue a Cold Weather Alert termination.

A cold alert is issued when there is a daily low temperature of -15⁰C or lower; when Environment Canada and Climate Change issues a wind chill warning; or during extreme weather conditions.

During a cold weather alert:

  • Individuals should take precautions when heading outdoors by dressing in layers, shielding exposed areas from the wind such as head, neck and face, and limiting time spent outdoors.
  • Local agencies that provide shelter and assistance to homeless people should prepare for an increase in demand.
