Brooke Bronco teachers saddle up for Saturday food drive
May 11, 2020
The staff of Brooke Central School is helping the community and getting a glimpse of their students with a door-to-door food drive.
Principal Chad Brown heard about Chatham-Kent’s May 16th Miracle – a food drive across the municipality to take place on one day – and was inspired to do the same in Alvinston.
So, on Saturday, Brown is asking community members to put some non-perishable food items on their porch and teachers dressed in their best Bronco colours will pick up the items without contact to the homeowners. There will also be a community drop-off point at the Alvinston Library.
Brown says the teachers hope this is a way to connect with their students whom they have only seen through online portals since the shutdown for COVID-19 began in March.
Brown says they miss their students “tremendously…That was the excitement from staff, they really looking forward to seeing students through their windows.”
The teachers will begin their door-to-door collection starting at noon. All the items will go to the Alvinston Food Bank.
