Rodeo rides out of Alvinston for 2020

July 16, 2020

Another local event has been cancelled because of the restrictions around COVID-19.

The Alvinston Pro Rodeo, which was originally supposed to be in June and then was postponed until late August, has now been cancelled.

“We were very hopeful that we would be able to present our rodeo at the end of August but government restrictions and public safety concerns associated with COVID-19 had other plans for us,” says Dan Cumming, the president of the Brooke-Alvinston Agricultural Society which puts on the event.

Recently the province increased the number of people who can be at one event to 100, but the rodeo drew thousands in the last two years.

“I can’t even put into words how having to postpone this event makes me feel. Disappointed doesn’t begin to scratch the surface,” he says.

Cumming says they are grateful for the support of the community and the rodeo community and hopes to host the third event in 2021.

“You’ve become our rodeo family and we can’t wait for the family reunion.”
