Lambton ‘in the driver’s seat’ as province eyes nuclear power in Courtright
Petrolia’s Remembrance Day service will be for invited guests only this year
October 1, 2020
The Petrolia Royal Canadian Legion is scaling back this year’s commemoration of Remembrance Day.
The restrictions around public gatherings because of the COVID-19 pandemic have forced Branch 216 to rethink how to mark the solemn occasion.
But officials hope people will still stop to honour those who gave their life fighting for freedom.
Poppy Chairperson Joe Card says Branch 216 will be distributing poppy boxes at the end of October and the wreaths will be laid Nov. 8.
But there will be no Remembrance Day Parade and the remembrance at the cenotaph in Victoria Park will be for invited guests only.
“Just because we cannot safely gather at this time it does not mean that we cannot take time to remember and express our gratitude for the service of these women and men,” says Card.
“Please make time to visit the Cenotaph during the month of November with your family and participate in our poppy campaign should you be able to do so,” says Card.
