Hospital being “exceedingly cautious” after patient tests positive and staff have COVID-19 symptoms
Lambton Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Bluewater Health in the medicine unit.
An outbreak is declared in a hospital when there are two or more cases of COVID-19 in a 14 day period and there is evidence of transmission within the hospital on a single unit.
Officials say one patient has tested positive and there are staff members who have COVID-19 symptoms and they are being “exceedingly cautious.”
“We are confident we are able to get this outbreak under control, as we have each time we have had COVID in our hospital,” says Dr. Mike Haddad, Chief of Staff in a news release.
“Contract tracing is underway and over the next 48 hours we will determine appropriate next steps to ensure continued care and safety of both our staff and patients.”
Officials say there will be enhanced infection prevention and control measures and anyone who was to be admitted to the medicine program will go to the acute medicine unit instead.
