Sarnia man faces weapons charges after vehicle hit with shotgun blast

The Independent
A 47-year-old Sarnia man is facing weapons charges after shots were fired at a vehicle on Overlea Crescent.
July 23, Sarnia Police were called to a home after a resident found multiple holes in the rear driver’s side door of the vehicle. Neighbours reported hearing gunshots in the area around 10:40 pm the night before. No one was injured.
Police say the damage was consistent with a shotgun discharge. Investigators determined the likely direction of travel and recovered shotgun wadding and shell components from the front yard of a nearby home. It was consistent with a discharged .410-gauge shotgun shell and aligned with the trajectory of the damaged vehicle.
Police later executed a warrant for the home and seized six firearms including a Winchester Model 37A .410 bore shotgun, along with .410-gauge and .22 calibre ammunition. Investigators also located a spent .410-gauge shotgun shell casing inside the residence.
A yet-to-be named 47-year-old Sarnia man is facing 17 charges including eight counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
Investigators were unable to establish a motive for the incident but say the shotgun was likely fired from the home where the guns were seized.
