Signs of COVID-19 variants found in Lambton

March 4, 2021

Eleven Lambton schools have COVID-19 cases including LCCVI

Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health isn’t surprised.

Dr. Sudit Ranade has been saying for sometime the arrival of the COVID-19 variants in Lambton was inevitable.

Today, Public Health Ontario says two of the 63 recent COVID-19 cases in Lambton are suspected to be a variant of the original virus. One more test will be required to confirm it.

That’s of some concern because the variants coming out of COVID-19 are spread easier. While people are not getting sicker, more people are becoming infected and that could mean hospitals will face more cases of COVID in the future.

Meantime, the number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Lambton jumped Thursday. There were 47 new cases reported.

There are now 11 schools reporting COVID-19 cases in Lambton, including LCCVI in Petrolia where one student has tested positive. Three students at North Lambton in Forest are also ill.

In Corunna, one staff member at Col. Cameron Public School tested positive as did two students at St. Joseph’s School.

There are also two students ill at Holy Rosary in Wyoming. Two classrooms have been closed there to help contain the number of cases there .

The outbreak at the Inn of the Good Shepherd Shelter has grown to five residents and three staff.

There is also a workplace outbreak with eight people COVID-19 positive.
