Warwick offering cheap ice time during restrictions
March 6, 2021
Warwick Township is offering cheap ice time to make up for the COVID-19 restrictions.
Warwick is one of the few communities which left the ice in its arena during the lockdown over December and January. Councillors wanted to provide fitness options for kids if they could.
Council agreed to keep the ice in, even though only 10 people at a time can use it.
Council decided to offer the ice for just $60 per hour, less than half the regular price, because of the limitations.
That move prompted Brooke-Alvinston to pull the plug on its ice. Randy Hills, the manager of public works, said they couldn’t compete with the $60 ice time and the few programs which were still running.
Many groups decided to call their hockey seasons once the lockdown began. Petrolia also removed its ice at the time.
