Ten per cent of Lambton residents have had a COVID-19 shot

March 17, 2021

As the daily number of COVID-19 is stuck in the double digets, there is some good news on the vaccine front.

Today’s Lambton Public Health statistics show 12, 017 people in the region have had at least one dose of their vaccine. That’s about 10 per cent of the population far better than the provincial rate of six per cent of the population.

One thousand, one hundred and sixty seven – mostly those in long term care – have been fully vaccinated.

Once a week, public health releases updated information, along with some of the markers the province uses to determine how communities are doing in the fight against the virus. Those numbers in Lambton are worse that last week. The number of cases per 100,000 has increased from 102 per 100,000 to 119 per 100,000 in the past week. That’s among the highest in the province. Officials say 3.3 per cent of the tests completed are positive for the virus. The provincial average is 4.2 per cent. And 32 of the variants to COVID-19 have been detected in Lambton.

Today, Lambton Public Health is reporting 20 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 with 13 people considered recovered. Officials say 179 people are ill with the virus right now.
