New PW fire chief to be on board in a month

Plympton-Wyoming’s new fire chief is ready to get to work.

Town council officially hired Darryl Thompson to be the director of fire and emergency services and the fire chief of the municipality Wednesday.

Thompson has served with the Town of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services in senior management for 15 years according to the town’s news release. He’s also a graduate of Dalhousie University’s Fire Service Leadership and Incident Command programs.

Thompson also served as the head of the professional firefighters association.

“I am devoted to developing a strong foundation and a sound collaborative environment,” he’s quoted as saying in the town’s news release.

Mayor Lonny Napper called Thompson a well-respected, strong and capable leader.”

CAO Carolyn Tripp did not have a firm date for when Thompson will begin his duties. It’s expected to be the last week of May or the first week of June.

Thompson takes over from acting chief Scott Jordon, who stepped in when Steve Clemens resigned in October.
