BREAKING: York Police say body found in Watford landfill is one of two missing from Markham

York Regional Police confirm the body of one of two people missing from Markham has been recovered at the Twin Creeks Landfill in Watford.

And the Metro Toronto area police department continues to look for the second person at the landfill today.

Wednesday afternoon, about a dozen officers and a Canine Unit were looking through an active cell of Ontario’s largest landfill for several hours. A drone was also used in the search.

The department is investigating the disappearance of Quoc Tran, 37, and Kristy Nguyen, 25, of Markham. Police believe they were victims of foul play in a targeted attack.

A news release says they were last seen in an industrial area in Vaughn Saturday Sept. 18 around 5:30 pm. Investigators believe they “were victims of a targeted attack.”

“Through investigation, the remains of one body has been recovered at Twin Creeks Landfill and Environmental Center in Watford Ontario,” police state in a news release issued this afternoon. “Investigators continue efforts to recover the second body, which is believed to be at the same location.”

York Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a 35-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of the couple.

Phuong Tan Nguyen is considered armed and dangerous

A second man has been arrested and charged with being an accessory to murder. Police received tips from the public after pictures of a vehicle were released Tuesday. Wednesday, Recaldo Liburd was arrested and charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder.
