Teachers to get special booster clinics but it’s not clear when that will happen outside the GTA

January 6, 2022

Teachers will be getting priority for booster shots – it’s just not clear when.

The Ford government moved learning online again this week as the Omicron variant sweeps through the province. Teachers, their unions, and parents all called for the government to do something in the two weeks to make the classroom safer. One of the demands has been to prioritize booster shots for teachers.

The Education Minister, Stephen Leece, said in a statement today that in the Greater Toronto Area the targeted vaccination clinics will start tomorrow. He added the ministry is working with health units across the province to plan special education clinics suggesting school sites might be used as vaccination sites.

Leece added N95 masks will also be sent to licensed child care centers across the province starting Monday. Childcare officials have said they are continuing to work with children who cannot be vaccinated without adequate protection.

Leece also announced enhanced child care screening measures – although that was not defined.

Leece added it is the aim of the ministry of education and health to make more rapid tests available in child care centers.
