Warwick lands $750,000 grant for new community complex

Warwick Township has received its first significant grant for the East Lambton Community Complex.

The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario announced Friday the township has been granted $750,000 to help cover the cost of the barrier-free, accessible, and gender inclusive washrooms that use green technologies at the complex.

Warwick Chief Administrative Officer, Amanda Gubbels says the grant also helps pay for an addition which allowed the township to build a walking track in the $11 million facility.

It’s the first government grant the municipality has received for the complex.

Warwick Mayor Todd Case says it will help pay down the $9 million debt for the project. “It is a huge impact in a very positive way on our debt… this money is very, very much appreciated and welcomed,

Meantime, the community’s fundraising campaign is almost “over the top” Gubbels says. So far, $1.925 million has been raised of the $2 million goal
