Flood watch in effect after two days of rain
April 1, 2023
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority says there is a chance of “minor flooding” today in the wake of an evening of rain that could lead to road closures
The authority issued a flood watch saying an active weather system has brought upwards of 55 mm of rain to the watershed over the past 48 hours. Forecasts are calling the rain to ease off later this afternoon.
Water levels are rising from the precipitation and are anticipated to spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields; roads may become impacted. Saturated soils could contribute to ponding, increased runoff and possible increased erosion and seepage issues.
The conservation authority is reminding people to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
