MacKenzie named Plympton-Wyoming’s Senior of the Year

The president of the Plympton-Wyoming Historical Society is the community’s Senior of the Year.

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Gary Atkinson at the beginning of the June 28 council meeting presented Gord MacKenzie with the award.

Mackenzie humbly accepted the award, making note of the many other volunteers who definitely add to the community.

Mackenzie moved to Plympton-Wyoming in 1971 being transferred with Bell
Canada from Montreal. He would go on to the work for Bell Canada for 30 years
before helping to found Interlink Telecommunications and working there for
another 20 years.

His volunteering includes his involvement in soccer as well as
with the Bluewater Triathlon. Mackenzie is currently the president of the Plympton-Wyoming Historical Society, which operated the Plympton-Wyoming Museum.

He is also a member of the Town of Plympton-Wyoming’s special events
committee.

The Local Journalism Initiative supports the creation of original civic journalism that covers the diverse needs of underserved communities across Canada.
