LCCVI evacuated after alarm in tech wing sounds

Demo of Forest arena begins
July 5, 2024
The demolition of the old Forest Memorial Community Centre has begun.
Lambton Shores council approved the full demolition of Kimball Hall, the arena, dressing rooms, board room and the area once home to Contact House in May.
When Lambton Shores first discussed a new arena, it was the understand the old arena would eventually face the wrecking ball. But since The Shores Complex opened in 2007, the old arena has been used for storage and Kimball Hall has been leased to the Optimist Club.
In a report to council, Ashley Farr, Director of Community Services, says The Optimists haven’t used the hall since 2022. Contact House has recently moved leaving the Community Centre empty.
Council agreed full demolition of the Community Centre was the most practical and cost-effective solution.
The Forest Curling Club, which is attached to the old arena, will remain with restoration to the site including new metal cladding and flashing to match the existing facility.
Schouten Excavating will demolish the building starting in July for $306,178.
Demolition is expected to be complete by September.
