Flooding concerns again says conservation authority
August 6, 2024
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is watching for flooding again today.
The authority says up to 30 mm of rain is expected with higher amounts of rainfall in thunderstorms.
“Ground conditions are likely to be very reactive due to the heavy rains the region received in mid-July. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly and produce localized runoff. High amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to pooling on roads and flash flooding,” officials said.
The SCRCA adds people should avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
