Great Lakes outlasts Lancers in Sr. football final

November 13, 2024

The LCCVI Lancers simply ran out of time in the Lambton-Kent Senior Boys football final.

Wednesday’s match up against Great Lakes was close throughout the game with the Lancers and Wolfpack tied at six at half time. The Wolfpack hit a three-point field goal in the third and a touchdown in the fourth.

With 2:42 left in the game, with Great Lakes leading 16-6, Hunter Duncan called out to Coach Matt Godfrey, “Put me in for the kickoff.”

Godfrey did and Duncan returned the kick for a touchdown. With the extra point, the Lancers pulled within three with about 2:29 left on the clock.

LCCVI made it midway up the field with just six seconds left but Gabriel Ardell’s last gasp hail mary, slipped out of reach of Duncan as the final buzzer sounded.
