Lambton OPP are once again warning seniors to be careful of callers claiming to be grandchildren in trouble.
In early December, police heard from a Corunna resident who lost $8,500 to scammers.
The victim told police they’d received a call from someone they thought was their grandchild. They had talked to the grandchild’s lawyer and arrangements were made. Someone came to the Corunna home to pickup the cash.
Police say the ‘courier’ is a man in his 30s about 5’ 10” with a dark complexion and wearing a face mask. The ‘grandchild’ contacted the person again for another $8,400 but failed when the bank stepped in.
Police say be on the lookout for urgent requests that require secrecy. And they urge seniors to first check with another family member or trusted friend to verfiy the information before sending out any cash or giving out credit card information.
