Lancers win seven races, place second overall at LK swim meet

LCCVI’s Darius Landon took three individual titles at the Lambton-Kent Swimming finals, leading his team to a second place finish overall.

Landon, who has won four medals at the provincial championships in the last two years, including two gold, won the 200 meter freestyle, the 100 meter backstroke and the 100 meter individual medley races at the LK finals at the Sarnia Y Thursday.

Landon, Hayden Young, Yarko Zelenchuk and Hunter Kedwell also claimed first in the 200 Meter Medley Relay.

Zelenchuk and Young placed first and second in the 100 Meter Breaststroke event.

Kedwell took second in the 50 Meter Freestyle event. Young placed second in the 50 Meter Butterfly.

LCCVI’s 200 Meter Boys Freestyle Relay team of Zelenchuk, Ellis Wellington, Young and Kedwell also advanced to SWOSSAA with a win.

The Lancer Girls’ Relay teams also did well. Elsie Wellington, Madailynne Henderson, Danielle McKay and Marnie Sawyer placed first in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay.

Sawyer, McKay, Wellington and Elizabeth Kuykendall, placed second in the 200 Meter Medley Relay. 

And in the Girls 13-19 200 Meter Medley Relay, Henderson, Leah Stephens, Whitney Wilson and Jane VanDamme placed third.

The Girls’ team also collected a number of second place finishes in individual events.

Wilson in the 50 Meter Freestyle, Stephens in the 100 Meter Backstroke, Kuykendall in the 100 Meter Freestyle, VanDamme in the 14 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle and Sawyer in the 100 Meter Breaststroke.

Kuykendall also placed third in the 100 Meter Backstroke.

LCCVI placed second overall at the LK meet. The winners head to SWOSSAA in Windsor Feb. 20.
